Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland To Cross The Billion Mark At The Worldwide

Director Tim Burton has another achievement in his credit after leading the jury at the recently held ‘Cannes Film Festival’.

His latest film, the 3D adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, has become the sixth movie to cross the $ 1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. Burton’s film is the only spring release to ever accomplish the coveted landmark.

The fantasy adventure film released by Walt Disney, has earned over $ 332 million domestically and over $ 667 million in international markets. It has joined the elite club of top earning films like Avatar, Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and The Dark Knight. It is also Disney’s second highest grossing film to date.

The film, which is an extension of Lewis Carroll’s novels Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, uses a technique of combining live action and animation.

Burton took the story 13 years ahead than the original Lewis Carroll tale. The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2009 but was pushed to March 5, 2010.

Mia Wasikowska was chosen for the title role of Alice while Johnny Depp played the Mad Hatter. Other cast members included Matt Lucas, Helena Bonham, Stephen Fry, Anne Hathaway , Alan Rickman , Michael Sheen etc.
